MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, September 26th. Alfred State teammates Aaron Jenkins (Canfield, Ohio) and Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, N.Y.) eared Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Anna Maria’s Deandre Wallace (Waterbury, Conn.) took home Rookie of the Week while his teammate Jude Sampson (Waterbury, Conn.) was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Aaron Jenkins – Alfred State
(Senior, QB – Canfield, Ohio.)
Jenkins passed for 172 yards and two scores and rushed for 94 yards and two scores in Alfred State's 35-28 victory at Defiance. He threw TD passes of 23 and 37 yards and rushed in from 3 and 1 yards.
Defensive Player of the Week
Rylie Van Fleet – Alfred State
(Sophomore, DB – Endwell, N.Y.)
Van Fleet had a huge day with three interceptions as the Pioneers defeated Defiance 35-28. All three of his interceptions led to touchdown drives. He was credited with 101 of returns on the day on the three interceptions. He also led the team with 6 tackles and one pass breakup.
Rookie of the Week
Deandre Wallace – Anna Maria College
(Sophomore, WR – Waterbury, Conn.)
Wallace eclipsed the 100-yard receiving plateau for the second straight week, with four catches totaling 113 yards and two touchdown receptions in Anna Maria's 29-24 win over Coast Guard on Saturday. Wallace's 27-yard touchdown reception with 21 seconds remaining proved to be the difference in the game, and was his second-game winning catch in as many weeks. Just three games into his rookie season, Wallace is third in the conference in receiving yards per game and second in touchdown receptions.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Jude Sampson – Anna Maria College
(Gr., DL – Waterbury, Conn.)
Sampson made two of the biggest plays of the game in Anna Maria's 29-24 win at Coast Guard on Saturday. Late in the first quarter with the Bears lining up for a field goal, the fourth year player got a hand up to block the kick, which was then returned 60 yards for an AMCAT touchdown and a ten-point swing. In the closing seconds of the game with Coast Guard driving, it was Sampson again making a huge play, dropping the quarterback for a five yard sack and all but putting the game out of reach.
