MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, October 3rd. Anna Maria's Alex Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) earned Offensive Player of the Week while Gallaudet's Stefan Anderson (Faribault, Minn.) took home Defensive Player of the Week honors. Keystone's Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named Rookie of the Week and Castleton's Damiyr Martinez (Philadelphia, Pa.) received Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Cohen – Anna Maria
(Senior, QB – Plymouth, Mass.)
Cohen produced one of the greatest performances in the history of AMCAT football during Anna Maria's 55-35 win at Keystone on Saturday, throwing for five touchdowns and rushing for a sixth. The senior went 21 of 24 passing for 285 yards, while rushing for an additional 46. Cohen's 87.5 completion percentage was a school record, while his five touchdown passes matched a school record he had already tied once before. Just four games into their 2021 campaign, Anna Maria has reached the three wins plateau for the first time in school history, all with Cohen under center.
Defensive Player of the Week
Stefan Anderson – Gallaudet University
(Sophomore, LB – Faribault, Minn.)
Anderson led the Bison with a career-high 16 tackles (nine solo), one sack, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry as Gallaudet dethroned defending ECFC champion Dean College, 42-35, last Saturday at Hotchkiss Field in the conference opener. Anderson came through with a key sack on fourth down for the Bulldogs in the final minute of play as Dean was driving to try and tie the game. Anderson also broke up a pass on another fourth down attempt for Dean in the first quarter as the Bulldogs marched to the Gallaudet 38-yard line and went for it on 4th and 5.
Rookie of the Week
Mujaheed Muhammad – Keystone College
(Freshman, RB – Philadelphia, Pa.)
Muhammad totaled 122 yards on 12 carries (10.2 avg) and 1 touchdown, including a 58-yard rush, against Anna Maria.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Damiyr Martinez – Castleton University
(Sophomore, DB – Philadelphia, Pa.)
Martinez provided a big boost for Castleton to open the second half, returning the first kick-off of the third quarter 94 yards for a touchdown. The sophomore split a group of defenders early in the return and then raced untouched down the right sideline the remainder of the way, giving Castleton a 10-6 lead. Martinez also contributed on the defensive side of the ball, making five tackles, forcing a fumble, and registering one pass breakup.
