MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, October 30th.  Husson University teammates John Smith (Fayettesville, Ga.) and Jean Gabriel (Lake Worth, Fla.) earned Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively. Mount Ida College’s Sean Chinova was selected Defensive Player of the Week while Gallaudet University’s Elisha Spinosa was selected Rookie of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Offensive Player of the Week


John Smith – Husson University
(Junior, RB – Fayetteville, Ga.)

Smith powered Husson to a 45-14 win at Becker, racking up 183 yards, an average of 6.3 yards per carry, and three first half touchdowns on 29 carries. He had touchdown runs of 7, 1 and 38 yards. His 38-yard touchdown run that came right before halftime was 47th career touchdown scored (45 rush, 2 rec) giving him the most in program history.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sean Chinova – Mount Ida College
(Senior, LB – Watertown, Conn.)

Chinova scored a defensive touchdown in Mount Ida's 55-21 rout of Anna Maria, picking off a pass and returning it 30 yards. The linebacker also racked up 8 tackles, one sack, one pass breakup and one blocked kick.

Rookie of the Week

Elisha Spinosi – Gallaudet University
(Freshman, RB – Lanham, Md.)

Spinosi scored two touchdowns for Gallaudet University last Saturday as the Bison defeated Castleton University, 21-17, on homecoming before a crowd of 3,844 at Hotchkiss Field. Spinosi scored the game's first and last scores. He raced in from 11 yards out for the eventual game-winning touchdown with 9:03 left in the fourth quarter to give GU the four-point lead. He started the day with a five-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter as the Bison led 7-0.

Special Teams Player of the Week


Jean Gabriel – Husson University
(Junior, DB – Lake Worth, Fla.)


Gabriel was a busy guy in Husson's 45-14 win at Becker becoming the first Eagle player to block two punts in a single-game and the first time Husson has achieve this as a team. In the first half, he blocked a DeJahn Dawkins punt setting up the go ahead touchdown. In the third quarter, he blocked a Dawkins punt again that was recovered at the Husson 48 and returned to the Becker 29 setting up another Eagle touchdown.
