Week 3 Preview: Privateers Host Merchant Marine on Heroes Appreciation Night

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Football Team will play its third and final non-conference game of the season as the Privateers play host to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Mariners on Friday evening on Reinhart Field at 7 p.m.

Series History: Heading into this season, the all-time series has gone the way of the Privateers with four wins in their seven all-time meetings. Last year, Maritime upended Merchant Marine by a score of 24-14 at Brooks Stadium in Kings Point.
 
Maritime Last Game Recap: The Privateers enter off of a 28-24 loss at home to Mass. Maritime. The Privateers had a total of 229 yards on the ground and 138 through the air for a game total of 367 yards, while the Buccaneers picked up just a few more yards for a game total of 388. Game Recap.
 
Merchant Marine Last Game Recap: Merchant Marine opened its season with a win last weekend, knocking off rival Coast Guard by a 31-27 score. After falling behind 21-14 late in the second quarter, the Mariners outscored the Bears 17-7 in the fourth quarter to pick up the victory.
 
Coin Flip: Returning to Maritime for the coin flip with be James Perduto '91. Perduto currently works as Vice President for Military Employment at First Data, working with veterans who are transferring into the working world, providing training and industry internships for service members and also finding jobs for military spouses and caregivers.
 
Heroes Appreciation Night: As part of Heroes Appreciation Night at tonight's football game, members of the military branches as well as the FDNY and NYPD will be joining Maritime's captains on the field for the coin flip. Meanwhile, the Maritime Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be on hand and selling the 2016 Maritime Athletics Heroes Appreciation Day T-Shirts.
 
Player of the Week: For the second straight week, the Privateers had the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference's top special teams player as senior Brian Price (New York, N.Y./Wadleigh) was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Around the ECFC: All eight members of the ECFC will be in action this weekend, as future league member Dean takes on Husson in Maine on Friday evening. Saturday action kicks off with Becker hosting Nichols, Mount Ida travelling to Springfield, Castleton playing host to Salve Regina, Anna Maria visiting Curry, Gallaudet taking on Greensboro, and Norwich hosting WPI.
