MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, September 9th.  Maritime’s Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y.) was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week while Gallaudet teammates Demontrai Lewis (Trinity, Texas) and Damonte Bray (Clinton, Md.) earned Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively. Husson University’s Solomon Hassen (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week


Thomas Wright – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Senior, QB – Wantagh, N.Y.)

Thomas Wright was dominant for the Privateers in their home opener against Massachusetts Maritime. The Wantagh, NY native rarely missed his target in the Chowder Bowl completing 17 of 22 passes for 231 yards and a single-game program record, five touchdowns. Wright finished with a quarterback efficiency rating of 240.5 and helped the Privateers win the game 51-21.

Defensive Player of the Week

Demontrai Lewis - Gallaudet University
(Senior, LB – Trinity, Texas)


Lewis led the Bison defense with 10 tackles (eight solo) which included four tackles for a loss of 17 yards. He forced one fumble, made one sack for a loss of eight yards and blocked a 27-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.

Rookie of the Week

Solomon Hassen – Husson University
(Freshman, RB – Los Angeles, Calif.)

Hassen accounted for 245 of Husson's 383 rushing yards in the 47-7 victory over the University of New England. The rookie carried the ball 28 times for an average of 8.8 yards per rush with two touchdowns to finish with the third most yards gained by a first-year player in a single-game in program history. Hassen broke loose for scoring runs of 41 and one yards with a long of 44 yards. The Los Angeles, Calif. native also added two catches for 36 yards to finished with the second most all-purpose yards (281) by a rookie in a game in HU's football history.

Special Teams Player of the Week


Damonte Bray - Gallaudet University
(Junior, SL– Clinton, Md.)
 

Bray was a star on special teams for GU last Saturday. He blocked a Greensboro punt in the first quarter as freshman Eric Gregory scooped up the loose ball at the 3 and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown at the 7:34 mark as GU led 14-0. Bray had a hand in Gallaudet's next score as well. Greensboro continued the drive but fumbled on fourth down as Bray scooped up the ball and ran 18 yards for a touchdown. The Bison led 21-0 with 5:53 left in the opening quarter.
