ECFC Student-Athletes Have Strong Showings in All Star Contests

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Seven Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) student-athletes represented their institutions at various All-Star games following the completion of the 2018 campaign. 

Maritime College landed multiple players in postseason all-star games. Curtis Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took part in the National Bowl in Daytona Beach, while Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y.)Matthew Mavrovich (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Nicholas Acevedo (Woodside, N.Y.), participated in the D3 Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Also making the trip to Myrtle Beach was ECFC Assistant Coach of the Year David Benoit, who served as head coach for the North team. 

Elijah Bryant (New York, N.Y.) will make the trip to Salem, VA on Jan. 20 as he earned an invite to play in the HBCU Spirit Bowl.

Husson University's Elvin Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also competed in the D3 Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the North squad. 

Alfred State senior defensive end John Lauretti (Seaford, N.Y.) shined as he earned Defensive MVP honors at FAF D1-FCS Senior Scout Bow. Lauretti played on the North squad that consisted of NCAA FCS, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III athletes.

Lauretti finished the contest, held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC, with six total tackles and three sacks. He also had a pass deflection en route to being named the Defensive MVP.
