ECFC Announces 2018 All-Conference Honorees & Major Award Winners

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced their all-conference teams and major award winners for the 2018 season as voted on by the league's seven head coaches. Student-athletes from all seven member institutions earned recognition with ECFC Champions, Husson University, leading the way with nine First-Team selections and four of the league's major awards.

Offensive Player of the Year: Thomas Wright (Maritime College)

Quarterback Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y.) of Maritime College earned Offensive Player of the Year accolades. The senior led the conference in several categories including completions (171), yards per game (267.8) and tied for a league-leading 26 touchdowns and a mere three interceptions. He added another three rushing touchdowns (116 yards)  and also caught a touchdown pass to cap off a brilliant regular season. Wright commanded an offense that averaged 34.5 points per game this year, second-most in the ECFC.

Defense Player of the Year: Elvin Suazo (Husson University)

Elvin Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of Husson University was named Defensive Player of the Year after his explosive senior season for the Eagles. The linebacker was a defensive force this year racking up eight sacks, 13 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and an interception. He also added 77 tackles in his ten games during the regular season. Suazo led an Eagles defense that surrendered a mere 14.5 points per game, good for tops in the ECFC.

Offensive Lineman of the Year: Brad Weston (Husson University)

Husson's Brad Weston (Gardiner, Maine) was honored as ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year after his impressive senior campaign. Weston anchored a line that led the ECFC in rushing yards (2,304) and touchdowns (23). The line was also key in pass protection, surrendering only four sacks in league games as their passing game averaged 238.2 yards per game on the season.

Special Teams Player of the Year: Quan Soyini (Husson University)

Quan Soyini (Manchester, Conn.) of Husson University earned ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year honors after a successful 2018 campaign. The defensive back was a key member of the Eagles' special teams unit. He also returned punts for Husson, averaging 19.6 yards per return in ECFC contests. Soyini also logged two punt returns for touchdowns, with a long of 81 yards to cap his senior campaign.

Rookie of the Year: Terrell Watts (Dean College)

Quarterback Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) of Dean College was recognized as ECFC Rookie of the Year for the 2018 season. The first year player started in nine games this year for the Bulldogs, throwing for 1,982 yards, 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also ended the season throwing just one interception in his last 132 pass attempts.

Coach of the Year: Gabby Price (Husson University)

Husson University Head Coach, Gabby Price, was recognized by his peers as ECFC Coach of the Year for the third straight season. He led the Eagles to an 8-2 record and third straight ECFC title along with three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III Football Postseason. The Eagles will take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the first round of the NCAA postseason.

Assistant Coach of the Year: David Benoit (Maritime College)

David Benoit, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Maritime College earned ECFC Assistant Coach of the Year accolades. 2018 marked Benoit's first season at Maritime but his impact was immediate. Benoit was challenged with the departure of the Privateers' former head coach only weeks before players returned for camp. Benoit was able to steady the program and also helped Interim Head Coach, Vincent DiGaetano, transition into his new role flawlessly as the Privateers compiled a 7-3 overall record and their third consecutive postseason bid.

ECFC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
