KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Sunday, October 13.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Justin Horvath (Grand Island, N.Y.), Alfred State, Jr., QB
  • Completed 20 of his 33 passes (60.6%) for 325 yards and one touchdown against Curry
  • Had a quarterback efficiency rating of 147.3
  • Notched season-highs for competitions, yards, touchdowns, and longest pass (79)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Penton (Manassas Park, Va.), Dean, Sr., DL/LB
  • Registered 10 tackles (5 solo) and 0.5 sacks (0.5 TFL) versus Husson
  • Tied for the league-high in tackles on the week
  • Set season-highs for total tackles and assisted tackles (5)

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Richard Brice II (Avon, N.Y.), Alfred State, So., QB/P
  • Totaled 196 yards on four punts (49.0 average)
  • Three of his four punts landed inside the 20-yard line (one fair catch)
  • Connected for a season-high-tying 63-yard punt

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Evan Bowen (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), Alfred State, Fr., WR
  • Caught five passes for 167 yards (33.4 average) and one touchdown
  • Established career highs for catches, receiving yards, touchdowns, and longest catch (79)
  • His 79-yard TD reception came in the fourth quarter against Curry 

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Dean College (Franklin, MA), and Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.).

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
