Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Football team suffers first loss of season to the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets. The Pioneers drop to 1-1 on the season.
Noah Currier led the Pioneers offense with 60 yards on 14 carries, while Nicholas Cuomo and Josh Graham added 45 rushing yards each. Currier was also the main receiver with 41 yards on five receptions.
On the defensive side of the ball, Silas Egenlauf led the way with nine tackles. Nick Johnson ended the day with eight tackles, and Connor Gorr tallied seven tackles.
The Yellow Jackets started fast with a touchdown in the first quarter, and three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead into the half.
The Pioneers had a strong second drive in the third quarter. Alfred State was able to march down the field on an 11 play 59-yard drive, but U of R made a great fourth down stop on the goal line to snatch the momentum away. From there, the Yellow Jackets were able to hold onto the lead to win the game 28-0.
The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend as they head to Massachusetts for their first road game of the season. They will take on MIT on Sept. 21 at noon.
