Alfred, NY- The Alfred State football team dominates the conference opener against Dean College winning 58-0. The Pioneers move to 3-4, and 1-0 in conference play.
Josh Graham led the Pioneers with 11 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Currier tallied two touchdowns on nine carries and racked up 67 yards. Silas Egenlauf led the defense with 14 tackles and an interception. Conner McWilliams tallied eight tackles with three sacks.
After a scoreless first quarter, Graham got the Pioneers going in the second after capping a nine play-99-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown rush, for the 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, the Pioneers forced a punt with 46 seconds left. On second down, Horvath connected with Evan Bowen for a 19-yard completion. They connected on a 13 completion, before Joseph Santos and Horvath connected on an eight-yard pass to get in Alexander Caufield field goal range with one second left in the half. Caufield knocked in a 32-yard field goal as time expired to get the Pioneers a 10-0 lead into half.
The Pioneers got the offense rolling in the second half as they tallied 48 points. Chase Shepanski opened the half with a 63-yard touchdown rush for the 16-0 lead. In the kickoff, the Pioneers recovered a fumble that led to a Currier touchdown. Then on the next Pio possession, Nicholas Cuomo finished a two-play drive with a one-yard rush to take a 30-0 lead. After a Silas Egenlauf interception, Currier scored his second touchdown of the day to make it a 37-0 lead.
Then in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers scored 21 points. Graham scored the first touchdown of a one yard rush up the middle. Jose Vargas capped a three-play 38-yard drive with a one -yard touchdown. Xander Hind capped the day with a 24-yard touchdown run for the 58-0 lead.
The Pioneers will be on the road next Saturday 10/26 for a game against Anna Maria at 12 pm.
