ECFC Announces Major Award Winners and All-Conference Honorees

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced their all-conference teams and major award winners for the 2022 season as voted on by the league's seven head coaches. Student-athletes from all seven member institutions earned recognition.

Offensive Player of the Year

Quarterback Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.) of Gallaudet University was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year after a standout sophomore season with the Bison. After starting the first several games of the season as a receiver, Washington was moved to the quarterback position. He led the Bison at the receiver position with 14 receptions, 263 yards and three touchdowns. He was second in the league in rushing yards per game (105.6), yards per rush (5.9) and all-purpose yards per game (145.8), third in rushing yards (950), and fourth in rushes (162) and rushing touchdowns (8). Washington proved himself as a triple threat as he caught, ran and threw for a touchdown in two different games this season. He also ran for 100 or more yards in five games while leading his team to the ECFC championship for the second time in school history.

Defensive Player of the Year

Gallaudet University's linebacker Jacob Hartman (Petersburg, W. Va.) was named Defensive Player of the Year. Hartman was selected to the 2021 ECFC All-Conference 1st Team in his rookie campaign with the Bison last season. He ranked first in the league in tackles for loss (17.5), which ranked 14th nationally in Division III. He also ranked third in the league in sacks (5) and fourth in solo tackles (42). The sophomore linebacker had six or more tackles in all but one of game this season, racking up 69 total tackles on the season. Hartman added two forced fumbles, one interception and two pass breakups to his stat line while helping lead the Bison to an ECFC title this year.

Offensive Lineman of the Year

Castleton's Tucker Gaudette (Georgia, Vt.) was honored as ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second year in a row after an impressive senior campaign. Gaudette started every game at left tackle and anchored a line that rushed for 1,538 yards on the season. The Spartans also protected their quarterback, surrendering just 20 sacks on the season over 10 games. Gaudette helped lead the Spartans to a 2nd place finish in the league.

Special Teams Player of the Year

Jonathon Waterman
(Sebastian, Fla.) of Gallaudet University was honored as the Special Teams Player of the Year. The junior kicker/punter ranked first in the ECFC for field goals made (7) and longest field goal (45 yards). He also ranked 2nd in extra-point percentage (96%) and 3rd in total points scored (45) in his nine games on the season. Waterman did it all for the Bison, taking on kickoffs, punting and kicking duties for the Bison. He punted 31 times for 1,069 yards and only had one punt blocked, often forcing fair catches and limiting his opponent's kick return opportunities. Gallaudet's kickoff return defense ranked 12th in the nation with only 13.96 average return yards.

Rookie of the Year

Gallaudet University's Andrae Green (Washington, D.C.) was honored as the Rookie of the Year after a stellar first season as a Bison. Green finished with three interceptions, ranking fourth in the league in that category. One of those interceptions he ran back for a touchdown. The first-year defensive back also added 13 solo tackles, a fumble recovery and seven pass breakups while locking down his opponent's No. 1 receivers all season.

Coach of the Year

Gallaudet University Head Coach, Chuck Goldstein, was recognized by his peers as ECFC Coach of the Year. Goldstein led the Bison to the ECFC title this season with a 5-1 record in conference play and 7-2 overall record. The 2022 conference crown marked the second championship in the history of the program. The Bison will represent the ECFC in the NCAA Tournament this year, taking on Delaware Valley in the first round.

Assistant Coach of the Year

Stephon Healey was selected as the 2022 ECFC Assistant Coach of the Year. Healey is in his 10th season coaching with the Bison football program and 11th overall at Gallaudet University. He serves as both the Defensive and Special Team Coordinator while also leading the entire strength and conditioning program for Gallaudet. The Bison finished ninth in Division III for defensive touchdowns (4). Healey also coached the best placekicker in program history in Jonathon Waterman. His contributions helped lead Gallaudet to its second ECFC title in program history.

ECFC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
