Co-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Tyler Carpenter, Castleton
(Fr., RB - Fort Edward, NY)
Carpenter wrote the Castleton rushing record book, gaining 298
yards on 37 carries in Saturday's thrilling 49-44 win at Becker.
The freshman back pounded out three touchdowns of 25, 22 and 7
yards respectively. Carpenter also caught two passes for 49 yards
giving him 347 all-purpose yards on 39 touches for a 8.9 yards per
touch average.
Phillip Hayes, Gallaudet University
(So., RB - Baton Rouge, La.)
Hayes rushed for a career-high 214 yards on 11 carries as he
scored five of Gallaudet's eight touchdowns in a 56-7 win over Anna
Maria. Hayes averaged 19.5 yards per carry and had a long run of 52
yards. He scored the game's first and last two touchdowns. Hayes
had touchdown runs of 52, 49, 47, 29 and nine yards. He also
fielded one kickoff and returned the ball 33 yards to give him 247
all-purpose yards in the game.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joseph Gumberwicz, Norwich
University
(SO, LB - Oxford, CT)
Gumberwicz made seven tackles, including 2.0 for loss in Norwich's
15-3 win over New York Maritime on Saturday. The sophomore
linebacker scored on a 40-yard fumble recovery and run midway
through the fourth quarter to secure the victory and the right to
host the ECFC Championship Game.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kyle Watkins, Mount Ida College
(Sr., WR/KR - New Haven, CT)
Senior and return specialist senior Kyle Watkins (New Haven,
CT/James Hillhouse) ran a 85 yard kickoff return to the house to
pull back within a touchdown of the Eagles 21-28 with 11:41 to go
in the fourth quarter. This score was the momentum the Mustangs
needed to get themselves back into the contest.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Shane Brozowski, Castleton
(Fr., QB - Rensselaer, NY)
Brozowski piloted the Spartans to a 49-44, come-from-behind win at
Becker College this past Saturday. The freshman quarterback
completed 18-of-32 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns.
Brozowski also rushed for a key fourth-quarter touchdown and
orchestrated a perfect two-minute offense, marching the Spartans 55
yards on eight plays over the final 2:13 of the game. He then
capped the game-winning drive with a seven-yard touchdown pass to
Anthony Simms.
