2009 ECFC All-Academic Team Announced
The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference is proud to announce the 2009 All-Academic honorees. Nineteen student-athletes who participated during the 2009 season received recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing, have participated a minimum two years with the team and achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. As they are in their first year of sponsorship, Castleton State College and Anna Maria College are exempt from the participation criteria.

2009 ECFC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS ANNOUNCED
The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its 2009 all-conference team. Mount Ida sophomore running back Johrone Bunch was named Offensive Player of the Year while teammate Kyle Watkins was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Norwich senior defensive end Reza Afsarmanesh was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year while Gallaudet's Tom Pangia and Norwich's Kris Sabourin shared Rookie of the Year honors.

Castleton's Shane Brozowski threw for a season-high 306 yards and three touchdown's in Saturday's loss to Norwich in the inaugural Vermont Maple Sap Bucket Championship earning ECFC Rookie of the Week honors.

Castleton's Tyler Carpenter (pictured) and Gallaudet's Phillip Hayes shared NAC Offensive Player of the Week awards. Carpenter racked up nearly 350 offensive yards with three touchdowns while Hayes scored five times on 11 carries gaining 214 yards.

Anna Maria's Nate Adames was a workhorse for the AMCATS, racking up 182 all-purpose yards, including 151 yards and two touchdowns on the ground earning ECFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Zach Sucharski led Norwich's defensive effort against Gallaudet in the 14-7 victory. The junior defensive lineman helped the Cadets limit the Bison to 238 yards of total offense and seven points recording 10 tackles, including 3.0 tackles-for-loss, one sack, a forced fumble and one fumble recovery earning ECFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Norwich's Joseph Gumberwicz had two interceptions, one fumble recovery and 1.5 quarterback sacks to help the Cadets defeat Mount Ida 28-6 yesterday earning ECFC Defensive Player of the Week.

ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week sophmore defensive lineman Rob Gorgy single-handedly saved Maritime from a loss by blocking what would've been a game-winning 35-yard Kings Point field goal as time expired in regulation. The sophomore deflected the kick, which sailed wide-left and forced overtime, where Maritime claimed the victory.

Gallaudet University's Jimmy Gardner rushed for a career-high 130 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Gallaudet University to a 34-7 victory on the road against Hiram College earning ECFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Keith Barnes led the N.Y. Maritime defense with 7.5 total tackles earning ECFC Defensive Player of the Week. The first-year linebacker was a vital piece of the Privateers defense that held Mass. Maritime to just 14 points in the 31-14 victory at the third annual Chowder Bowl.
