Keystone Falls to Misericordia on the Road

DALLAS, Pa.- The Keystone College football team fell to host Misericordia University 38-20 Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field. With the loss, Keystone goes to 0-2 while Misericordia picked up its first win of the season.  

Trailing 10-0 going into the second quarter, Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) got the Giants on the board with a nine-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 10-6 ball game at the half. However, Keystone was outscored heavily in the second half.   

In the fourth quarter, Tom Roach (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) ran a QB sneak from 1 yard out, and later found Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) in the back of the end zone for his first reception touchdown of the season. Roach threw for 140 yards with one touchdown and an interception.  

Keystone's defense had a big day as they forced four Cougar turnovers. Joe Manfredo (Levittown, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) and Dontez Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Pennsauken) combined for three interceptions. Crawford had two pass breakups during the contest. The defense also recovered a fumble. Linebacker Carlos Perez (Reading, Pa./Reading) had a game high 14 tackles in the loss.  

For host Misericordia, Eric Jeffries rushed for two touchdowns. Michael Gawlik, Matt Maransky, and Dominic Caruso all had one. On the defensive side, Tim Hill had his second interception of the season. Justin Moreno, Eric Glass, and Jared Skidds all contributed with a sack.  

The Cougars had 449 yards of total offense while the Giants had 277. Misericordia outscored Keystone 28-14 in the second half. Keystone and Misericordia combine converted nine times on third down.  

Keystone will travel to William Paterson next Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Misericordia will open Middle Atlantic Conference next week as they travel to Albright College with that game beginning at 1 p.m.
