Bulldogs Claim 2019 ECFC Title

FRANKLIN, Mass. - After posting a 4-1 record in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) for the 2019 season, the Dean Bulldogs were crowned league champions at the conclusion of conference regular season play this Saturday.

Despite Saturday's loss to ECFC foe Castleton University, the Bulldogs compiled a near-perfect conference regular season to claim the league title. Dean's 50-46 win over Alfred State University on November 2, combined with other game outcomes, clinched the regular season title for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will await the announcement of the New England Bowl field with hopes to represent the ECFC in the annual series against fellow New England football-playing conferences. The field for the annual bowl series will be announced next Monday, November 18 with the games scheduled for Saturday, November 23 at campus sites.

With Dean going through their final year of NCAA provisional status, runner-up program SUNY Maritime will repesent the ECFC in the NCAA postseason as they have earned the league's automatic-qualifier.

Quarterback Terrell Watts has been a force for the Bulldogs all season. The sophomore leads the ECFC in passing yards (270/gm) and touchdowns (27). Watts' favorite target in Errol Breux is also among the league's best as his 52 catches, 86.6 yds/gm and 14 touchdowns are all tops in the ECFC.

On defense Dean is led by the trio of Gene Baisden Jr., Wadell Alceus and Tyzohn Poole. Baisden ranks seventh in the ECFC with 63 tackles with fellow Bulldogs Alceus and Poole are tied for eighth with 62 tackles apiece. Baisden is also a lockdown safety for the Bulldogs, posting an interception and five pass breakups on the season. Poole has also been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks as his five sacks rank third in the ECFC.
