MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, October 28th. Husson University swept the honors this week, after a strong performance against Castleton University on Saturday. Solomon Hassen (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned Offensive Player of the Week, while Derek Barden (Winter Park, Fla.) and Quan Soyini (Manchester, Conn.) took home Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.
Offensive Player of the Week
Solomon Hassen – Husson University
(Freshman, RB – Los Angeles, Calif.)
Hassen cut through the Castleton defense to the tune of 152 yards rushing and four touchdowns on a cold and dreary fall day at Dave Wolk Stadium on Saturday, helping the Eagles run past Castleton, 48-0. The rookie carried the ball 24 times, while averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
Defensive Player of the Week
Derek Barden - Husson University
(Sophomore, DL - Winter Park, Fla.)
Barden and the Husson defense held the Spartan offense to 131 total yards and to zero points on Saturday. Barden led the team with 10 tackles (two solo, eight assists). 2.5 of his tackles were a sacks that went for a total of 12-yards loss, while forcing a fumble in Husson's 48-0 win over Castleton.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Quan Soyini - Husson University
(Senior, DB – Manchester, Conn.)
Soyini was a difference-maker in multiple facets of the Eagles 48-0 win over Castleton. He averaged 29.4 yards per punt return including the 68-yard score to take sole possession for the most punt return touchdowns in single-season and in a career in program history. Soyini also finished the afternoon with a new single-game record for most yards gained off punt returns with 147 yards, while becoming the first punt returner in program history to record two seasons of 300 or more yards off punt returns. In addition to his punt returns, the senior DB also registered three tackles and recovered his own forced fumble.
