October 22nd, 2018

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, October 21st.  Husson University teammates Cory Brandon (Pembroke, Mass.) and Derek Barden (Winter Park, Fla.) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Dean College’s Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) was tabbed Rookie of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Cory Brandon – Husson University
(Senior, QB – Pembroke, Mass.)

Brandon sparked the Husson offense that scored 54 points on Saturday (Oct. 20) as the Eagles extended their conference winning streak to 20 with a 54-14 victory over Anna Maria. He contributed four passing touchdowns of 48, 40, 12, and seven yards, to become the first quarterback in program history to throw 20 or more touchdowns in two different seasons. Most of his damage was done through the air as he completed 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) pass attempts for 288 yards, while carrying the ball once for two yards. He had an efficiency rating of 212.6.

Defensive Player of the Week

Derek Barden - Husson University
(Sophomore, DL - Winter Park, Fla.)

Barden was a part of a Husson defense that held Anna Maria to just 14 points and 224 yards of total offense (200 passing, 24 rushing), while forcing five turnovers and sacking the quarterback six times on Saturday (Oct. 20). He had seven tackles (three solo, four assisted, two for loss) with two sacks, two forced fumbles and a quarterback hurry in the effort.

Rookie of the Week

Terrell Watts - Dean College
(Freshman, QB – New Haven, Conn.)

Watts was outstanding in an explosive homecoming victory over Gallaudet. He was 13-for-20 passing for 306 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to those gaudy numbers, Watts had a 66-yard touchdown run that broke the game wide open later in the second quarter.
