MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, September 2nd.  Maritime’s Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y.) was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week while Gallaudet’s Mason Gooch (Mount Sterling, Ky.) earned Defensive Player of the Week. Dean College teammates Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) and Julian Burris (Marietta, Ga.) were named Rookie of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

Offensive Player of the Week

Thomas Wright – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Senior, QB – Wantagh, N.Y.)

Wright was efficient and effective for the Privateers in their 36-8 win over Maine Maritime. The Wantagh, NY native totaled 264 yards through the air with a 70% completion rate and two touchdowns. Wright also found some holes running the ball and finished with 31 yards and seven attempts and one touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Week

Mason Gooch - Gallaudet University
(Junior, LB – Mount Sterling, Ky.)

Gooch set the tone for the Gallaudet defense last Saturday at Alvernia. The junior linebacker finished with eight tackles (five solo) and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 25 yards as the Bison drove the Golden Wolves back early on in the opening game of the season. He also recovered one fumble for the Bison, who lost 26-21 on the road.

Rookie of the Week

Terrell Watts – Dean College
(Freshman, QB – New Haven, Conn.)

In an amazing display of poise, Watts threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns, connecting on 62 percent of his passes in his first collegiate contest. Watts was 19-for-31 and was at his best when the Bulldogs needed him the most, tossing three of his four scoring strikes in the fourth quarter as Dean nearly pulled off the upset.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Julian Burris – Dean College
(Junior, WR – Marietta, Ga.)

In a wild 44-41 shootout with Curry College, Burris was clearly the most explosive player on the field. He racked up 140 yards receiving on just four catches and a pair of touchdowns. He caught scoring grabs of 76 and 21 and returned a kickoff 92 yards for another score. Overall, Burris collected 163 yards on the kick return and 303 all-purpose yards.
