MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, November 12th. Husson’s John Smith (Fayetteville, Ga.) earned Offensive Player of the Week, while Alfred State’s John Lauretti (Seaford, N.Y.) garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors. Gallaudet’s Darrion Green (DeSoto, Texas) and Maritime’s Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y.) were named Rookie of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

Offensive Player of the Week


John Smith – Husson University
(Senior, RB - Fayetteville, Ga.)

Smith rushed for 287 yards - the second most rushing yards in a single-game - with five touchdowns, as Husson captured back-to-back ECFC titles with a 42-14 senior day victory over Mount Ida. Smith scored on runs of two, three, three, ten and 70 yards, tying him for the most rushing touchdowns in a single-game in program history, while also becoming the first Eagle in program history to score 150 points in a single-season. He also added one catch, giving him 290 all-purpose yards - the fourth most in a single-game – making him the first Eagle in program history to surpass the 2,000 yard all-purpose mark in a single-season.

Defensive Player of the Week

John Lauretti – Alfred State College
(Junior, DL – Seaford, N.Y.)

Lauretti had a season-best 16 tackles in Saturday’s game against Castleton. He also had 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a combined loss of 16 yards.

Rookie of the Week

Darrion Green – Gallaudet University
(Freshman, SL – DeSoto, Texas)

After a scoreless third quarter, Gallaudet got on the scoreboard with a pair of Darrion Green rushing touchdowns (14 and 19 yards) in the final quarter of the 2017 season. Green accounted for the only Bison scores on the day and had 81 yards on 10 carries.

Special Teams Player of the Week


Matthew Murphy – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Senior, K – Seaford, N.Y.)

Murphy played another integral role in Maritime's 54-14 win over Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon. The senior led the team with 11 points scored on two field goals and five extra points, with his field goals coming from distances of 26 and 33 yards. In addition to his placekicking duties, Murphy had 544 yards on 10 kickoffs including two touchbacks for an average of 54.4 yards per kick. In terms of punts, Murphy had an average of 40.3 yards per punt on his four punts, including one that landed inside the 20-yard line and one going for a touchback.
