MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, September 10th. Maritime (N.Y.) teammates Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y.) were named Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively. Castleton University’s Jakob Trautwein (Middlebury, Vt.) earned Defensive Player of the Week, while Dean College’s Dequan Brown earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week


Thomas Wright – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Junior, QB – Wantagh, N.Y.)

Wright had another impressive showing in Friday's win over Mass. Maritime as the quarterback set a program record with both 32 completions and 342 passing yards. He was second on the team's all-time yards gained list with 372 combined yards as he also rushed for 30 yards. The quarterback threw for one touchdown and rushed for two more as his passing touchdown gave Maritime a lead it did not relinquish at 13-6 late in the second half.

Defensive Player of the Week

Jakob Trautwein – Castleton University
(Senior, LB – Middlebury, Vt.)

Trautwein tied his single-game career high with 18 tackles Saturday night against Fitchburg State. Among his 18 tackles were two sacks, becoming the seventh player in Castleton history to earn two sacks in one game. In total, he was credited with three tackles for a loss. He also forced the Fitchburg State fumble deep in Falcon territory late in the third quarter that led to the game-tying field goal. Trautwein continues to lead the ECFC in tackles per game at 15.0, and he is now just seven tackles away from moving into fifth place on the Castleton career tackles list.

Rookie of the Week

Dequan Brown – Dean College
(Freshman, RB – Newark, N.J.)

Playing in his first collegiate contest, Brown accounted for both of the Dean touchdowns in Saturday’s loss to defending league champion Husson. Brown caught a 28-yard touchdown pass on fourth down on the opening drive of the game and then punched home a three-yard burst on the game’s final series. For the contest, he racked up 65 all-purpose yards (22 rushing, 29 receiving, 14 kick-off return).

Special Teams Player of the Week


Matthew Murphy – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Senior, K – Seaford, N.Y.)

Murphy was 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts as he drilled from distances of 27, 39, and 35 yards. In addition to his perfect field goal attempts he also recorded another four points on extra points. In the kickoff game, Murphy had eight boots for a combined 473 yards as he averaged just over 59 yards per kickoff. Finally, Murphy had a pair of punts for Maritime that averaged 45.5 yards, including a key 46-yard punt to pin the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers at their own 11-yard line with just over two minutes left in the game and the Privateers leading by one possession.
