ECFC Weekly Honors for September 22, 2014

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Al Georgio, Norwich
(Sr, RB - East Greenwich, R.I.)
Georgio tallied 151 total yards, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown reception to help lead Norwich to a 10-7 victory over WPI on Saturday. Georgio caught three balls for 93 yards and rushed 18 times for 58 more yards to lead the Cadets' offense. He picked up a big first down, running for six yards on third down to pick up the first down and set up Wes Medeiros' game-winning field goal.


 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hugh O'Brien, Maritime (N.Y.)
(Sr, DE - Westbury, N.Y.)
O'Brien was credited with 1.5 sacks in Saturday's contest against Merchant Marine, as he finished the afternoon with eight total tackles. With his sack total from Saturday, the senior now stands alone as Maritime's all-time sack leader with 13.5 for his career. In addition to his sack prowess, O'Brien moved up on Maritime's all-time forced fumble list as he picked up one on Saturday afternoon to move him into sole possession of second place at Maritime.


 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wesley Medeiros, Norwich
(So, K - Gilford, N.H.)
Medeiros kicked the game-winning field goal with five seconds left to lift the Norwich football team to a 10-7 win over WPI on Saturday. The sophomore stayed perfect on the season with his field goal (3-for-3) and point after attempts (2-for-2) and has a team-leading 11 points on the season. 

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Nick Conte, Maritime (N.Y.)
(Fr, DB - Franklin Square, N.Y.)
Conte was all over the defensive side of the ball for Maritime in just his third career game. The freshman finished third on the team with nine tackles, including six coming in a solo variety. Included in his nine total tackles, was a half-tackle for a loss in yardage as he broke through the Merchant Marine offensive line for his first career tackle for a loss in yardage.
