ECFC Weekly Honors for October 4, 2010
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Johrone Bunch, Mount Ida College
(Jr., RB - Meriden, CT)
Mount Ida College junior running back and pre-season All-American
selection Johrone Bunch compiled a season best 340 yards rushing
and three scores averaging 6.9 yards a carry in a dramatic 38-34
Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) loss to hosting
Castleton State College this Saturday. This is the second time in
as many years Bunch has surpassed 300 yards rushing against the
Spartans. In 2009, Bunch compiled 351 yards rushing and five
touchdowns good for 9.4 yards per carry in a 39-7 victory over the
Spartans.
Shane Brozowski, Castleton
(So., QB - Rensselaer, N.Y.)
For the second straight week Brozowski turned in a record-setting
performance in a Castleton win. Trailing 34-24 to Mount Ida with
six minutes and 21 seconds to go the sophomore quarterback led the
Spartans on two touchdown drives for the win. The final drive
spanned 97 yards on 10 plays, with Brozowski accounting for 61
through the air and the final 16 with his legs as he punched in his
second rushing touchdown of the game with 32 seconds remaining. On
the day Brozowski threw for a Castleton-record 461 yards,
completing 30-of-50 attempts with two touchdowns and no
interceptions. He also gained 97 yards on the ground, netting 20
after six Mustang sacks, with two touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pat Lasher, Maritime College
(So., DB - Seaford, N.Y./Seaford)
Lasher intercepted a pass on Anna Maria's first drive of the
second half and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown in Maritime's
43-20 victory over the AMCATs on Saturday. He also recorded eight
total tackles (three solo and five assisted)and broke up one
pass.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Justin Wilson, Gallaudet
University
(Senior, Kicker/Punter - Carmichael, Calif.)
Wilson scored seven of Gallaudet's 13 points in last Saturday's
13-6 win on the road against Husson University. Wilson started the
day with a 32-yard field goal, the first field goal for the Bison
this season. He later converted an extra-point attempt as the Bison
led 10-0 at the half. In the third quarter, he booted a season best
37-yard field goal to help the Bison win their first ECFC game of
the season. In addition to the kicking game on offense, Wilson also
had four kick-offs go for 244 yards (a 61-yard average per kick)
and also booted four punts for 143 yards (35.8 yards per kick)
where two landed inside the 20-yard line with a long of 44
yards.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Michael Patterson,
Castleton
(Fr., WR - Jackson, N.J.)
Patterson tied a career high with eight catches, and had a
career-best 123 yards receiving in Castleton's 38-34 come from
behind win over Mount Ida. Patterson was instrumental in the
game-winning drive that spanned 97 yards on 10 plays in the final
minutes, catching a pair of 18-yard strikes to push the Spartans
into Mustang territory.
