ECFC Student-Athletes Receive Regional & National Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Multiple Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) student-athletes were recognized both regionally and nationally for their performances this fall.

Three Husson University players in Kyle Gaudet (Gilford, N.H.) Elvin Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Brad Weston (Gardiner, Maine) were named to the 2018 D3football.com All-East Region Team. Weston appeared on the Second Team offense as an offensive lineman while Gaudet and Suazo earned nods on the Third Team offense as a wide receiver and defense in the linebacker position n respectively.

Additionally, Suazo was named a finalist for the sixth annual Cliff Harris Award. The award is presented to the nation's top small college defensive player representing more than 5,000 defensive players from almost 500 NCAA Division II, Divison III and NAIA colleges and universities.

Weston, the ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year, anchored a Husson offensive line that helped the Eagles top 4,000 yards of total offense for the fourth straight season and 5,000 yards for the third consecutive season, while leading the conference in rushing yards (2,352) and touchdowns (23) for the third year in a row. The line was also key in pass protection, surrendering only four sacks in league games as their passing game averaged 242.7 yards per game on the season.

Gaudet, an ECFC First Team honoree, set new single-season marks for catches (66), receiving yards (1,031), receiving touchdowns (13), and receptions-per-game average (6.00) en route to becoming the first wideout in program history to surpass the 1,000 receiving yard mark in a single-season.

Suazo was named the ECFC's Defensive Player of the Year after recording a team-high and career-high 91 tackles (45 unassisted, 46 assisted and 14 for loss), eight sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception. The senior captain led an Eagles defense that surrendered a mere 16.6 points per game, good for tops in the ECFC.

Four Maritime Privateers earned Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Football in junior linebacker Liam Bailey (Sayville, N.Y.), senior kicker Ian Ziemski (Bel Air, Md.), senior offensive lineman Nicholas Acevedo (Woodside, N.Y.) and senior defensive lineman Payton Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.). All four players were also recognized as first-team ECFC.

Bailey earned All-ECAC First Team Defense after a season in which he led all Privateers in tackles with 126. Bailey's season was good enough to lead all ECFC players as well as rank him third all-time in single season tackles in ECFC history. Against USMMA, Bailey recorded 20 tackles which ties him the Maritime all-time single game record.

Ziemski receives All-ECAC First Team Special Team honors as he put a close to his Privateers career with a solid 2018 campaign. The senior kicker connected on five field goals including a career best 42-yard field goal against Hampton.

Acevedo earned a spot on the All-ECAC Second Team Offense. A staple of the Privateers offense, Acevedo made the start at tackle in all ten games this season and all 22 games the past two seasons.

Campbell adds another honor to his name as he joins the All-ECAC Second Team Defense. Campbell enjoyed a 2018 season in which he became the Privateers all-time leader in sacks.

Additionally, five from Anna Maria College were named to the Worcester Area All-Star Team. The team is comprised of athletes from Worcester-area colleges across all three NCAA Divisions.

Senior Dan Stout (Mercerville, NJ) was the only player to receive First Team honors at his position as an offensive lineman. Senior Paul Robitaille (Johnston, RI) made Second Team for his performance this year, also on the offensive line.

Sophomore Marcelino Da Veiga (Central Falls, RI) made Second Team for wide receivers. Da Veiga played in all 10 games for the AMCATS this season and was able to haul in 35 passes, for 494 total yards, and 5 touchdowns.

Sophomore Aiden Folster (Wappinger Falls, NY) secured a spot on the All-Star Second Team as a Defensive Back. Folster finished the year with 74 tackles which was good enough for a team high. of his 74 take downs 57 of them came as unassisted tackles.

Kai Nero-Clark a senior form Wheatley Heights, NY was named to the Second Team for his performance this season on the Defensive Line. Kai finished this season with 47 total tackles, 5 of which were tackles for a loss to total 27 yards, along with 3.5 sacks, and 2 blocked kicks.
